Creamy white pizza sauce based on Parmesan cheese and milk with simple flavoring. This easy recipe will have your sauce ready in less than 10 minutes.

Welcome to the kitchen of white pizza sauce lovers! Have you ever been to a kids’ party where pizza is served, and every kid is enjoying and loving the pizza, but there’s just one kid still not eating? Well, that’s my kid. Every time my kids take a bite of red sauce pizza, they will say, “I think there is something wrong with the pizza.” Phew!!
My hubby and I eat all kinds of pizza; we love both white and red pizza sauce bases. However, our kids are strict white pizzaterians. So, yes, this is a crucial recipe that is made weekly in our house. You get a creamy sauce that you can not only use for pizzas but also as a dip, dressing, or on the pasta.
Ingredients
Here are the things you will need.

- Butter: Preferably unsalted, but if you only have salted butter, use that and skip adding salt.
- Flour: All-purpose or plain flour.
- Garlic: You can use either garlic cloves or garlic powder. If using cloves, mince them or preferably press them.
- Milk: For a rich, creamy flavor, use full-fat milk or 2% milk. Fat-free milk can also be used; the sauce will still taste good.
- Cheese: Preferably use grated or freshly shredded Parmesan cheese as these melt effortlessly and give a smooth texture instead of clumps. Even boxed grated Parmesan works great. If you have no choice, you can use store-bought shredded Parmesan cheese. Please note that although the sauce may appear clumpy with store-bought shredded versions, it still tastes good.
- Salt and pepper.
Optional: You can also add onion powder, oregano, or Italian herbs for extra flavor.
How to make
You can make this sauce in just a few minutes.

- Take a saucepan and add butter, then put it on medium-high flame to melt the butter.
- Add flour to the melted butter.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes to make roux. Make sure to mix continuously once flour is added.
- Add half of the milk and mix. Followed by adding the rest of the milk.

- Continue mixing or whisking until the sauce thickens.
- Turn the heat to simmer and add garlic, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese. Let it cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Turn off the heat and continue whisking/mixing until the cheese melts and the sauce is smooth.
- Your sauce is ready.

Storage
Let the sauce cool completely and then transfer it to an airtight container. You can keep it refrigerated for up to 5 days. Make sure to add a label with the date when the sauce was made to make it easier to remember.
The sauce may thicken over time as shown in the picture above but still will be creamy to spread on the pizza. If it appears too thick, warm the amount you are going to use for 10-20 seconds (not more than that). The sauce will loosen up a bit and will be easier to spread.
Note: Do not freeze this sauce.

- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 garlic cloves (pressed/finely grated or ½ teaspoon garlic powder) (See note 3)
- 1 1/2 cup milk (See note 4)
- 3 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese (or 4 tablespoons of shredded parmesan cheese) (See note 5)
- 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (See note 6)
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
Optional (not used in this recipe)
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Add butter to a small to medium saucepan and place it on the stove. Turn the heat to medium-high flame and melt the butter.
- Then add all-purpose flour and mix with the butter to form a roux. Cook for around a minute, making sure not to burn the mixture.
- Add half of the total milk and mix thoroughly. Then add the rest of the milk and mix.
- Cook for another 1-3 minutes, continuously whisking or mixing, until the mixture thickens to your desired consistency. (Note: The sauce will thicken even after it is cooked, so keep the consistency slightly on the thinner side than your desired consistency.)
- Once thickened, lower the heat to simmer and add salt, pepper, garlic, and parmesan cheese.
- Mix everything and cook for another minute. Remove the pan from heat and continue mixing until the cheese melts and the sauce appears smooth.
- Let the sauce cool before transferring it to a storage container. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
